Our flock consists of full sized hens, and bantam roosters. We have a few feed store hens named Margaret, and Sugar, then my grandmother's old Buff Orphington hen's that we call the Golden Girls. All of our girls are laying regularly and have individual personalities. Our Roosters Peter, and Tony have so much character. They are both teeny tiny bantam roosters weighing less than 3 pounds. We are grateful they get along and don't fight among each other very often and when they do it's more like two bros bumping chests. Peter thinks he's a big tough guy and he attacks everyone who comes to close to his ladies, or if he's having a bad day he'll run across the yard to start a fight with you. (We've seen it) When we get the taps on the back of our legs his size makes us giggle about it even though he wants us to take him seriously. Tony on the other hand will stand back unless he believes duty is calling. He's far more shy and tends to stay out of the way but he will defend his ladies with his life. He's the only chicken I know of to be picked up by a hawk and survived a vicious feather plucking. If you want some entertaining characters on your farm, get some bantam roosters! Never will we be with out.
